At senior level, we ended Kildare’s championship gallop in Round 3B of the qualifiers a few weeks back. This afternoon at O’Connor Park, however, the Lilywhites’ minors returned the favour, dumping our lads out of the race for the Tom Markham Cup. Kildare won today’s All-Ireland quarter-final clash at Tullamore by 2-14 to 2-8 and they now advance to face back-to-back minor champions Kerry in the semi-final.
Up to half-time, it looked as if this one was going okay for us. Our lads reached the turn leading by a point but they faced an increasingly uphill battle after the break. Kildare took charge of the contest during the third quarter and a second goal for them near the end sealed the deal for the Leinster champions.
I wasn’t at Tullamore myself today but the indefatigable Colm Gannon was and his match report for the Mayo Advertiser is here. There are also reports on the game on the GAA website, Irish Times, Irish Independent and The 42.
Commiserations to Enda Gilvarry and his charges on the ending of their minor championship hopes for this year.
