The football club championships within the county are coming nicely to the boil, with the Junior championship now down to the final two following the weekend’s semi-finals while the knockout stages are about to begin at both the Senior and Intermediate level. This latest edition of the Mayo News football podcast reviews the JFC semi-final action and previews this coming weekend’s SFC and IFC quarter-finals.
Host Rob Murphy and I chat about the Junior semi-finals, where I give my thoughts on the Achill/Kilmeena match that I watched from the comfort of my living room sofa via the Mayo GAA TV streaming service. After that game in MacHale Park we hear from Achill duo Eddie Doran and Brian Lavelle, speaking with John Brennan, about the win.
Then it’s onto our big match feature where we join Rob and Mike Finnerty ringside at James Stephens Park in Ballina. Rob and Mike describe how Balla proved too strong for Killala in that one and we get post-match reaction to the result from Balla manager Pat Fallon.
After that it’s over to the Mayo News studio in Westport where Rob and Mike are joined by Ger Flanagan to assess the merits of all the teams still standing in the Senior and Intermediate championships ahead of this weekend’s quarter-final contests. The lads then call the likely winners in all eight ties down for decision on Saturday and Sunday.
