You guys in the comments were much quicker off the mark tonight than I was but, for the record, here are the details of the starting line-up and subs named earlier tonight for Sunday’s FBD match against Roscommon at Ballinlough (throw-in 2pm):
Mayo (Connacht FBD League v Roscommon, 19/1/2014): Robert Hennelly (Breaffy); Kevin Keane (Westport), Ger Cafferkey (Ballina Stephenites), Colm Boyle (Davitts); Brendan Harrison (Aghamore), Shane McHale (Knockmore), David Drake (Ballaghaderreen); Tom Parsons (Charlestown Sarsfields), Aidan O’Shea (Breaffy); Diarmuid O’Connor (Ballintubber), Andy Moran (Ballaghaderreen), Adam Gallagher (Mayo Gaels); Kevin McLoughlin (Knockmore), Alan Freeman (Aghamore), Darren Coen (Hollymount/Carramore). Subs: Brendan Walsh (Ballintubber), Keith Rogers (Ballaghaderreen), Jason Gibbons (Ballintubber), Brian Gallagher (Claremorris), Cathal Carolan (Crossmolina), Michael Conroy (Davitts), Enda Varley (Garrymore), Lee Keegan (Westport), Cathal Freeman (Aghamore), Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis).
So it’s seven changes from the side that started against IT Sligo last Sunday, with Robbie Hennelly, Colm Boyle, Tom Parsons, Aidan O’Shea, Diarmuid O’Connor, Adam Gallagher and Alan Freeman coming in while Brendan Walsh, Keith Rogers, Jason Gibbons, Brian Gallagher, Cathal Carolan, Cathal Freeman and Sean Kelly drop out.
The main talking point will obviously be the recall of Tom Parsons who lines out for the first time for the county since we played Monaghan in the league back in April 2011. The Charlestown midfielder undoubtedly has bags of talent but was never really able to deliver on the early promise he showed when he first burst onto the scene way back in 2008. It’s good to see him back in the fold – let’s hope things go better for him this time. Elsewhere it’s a mixture of youth and experience – that’s the third match in a row, by the way, that we’ve gone with that half-back line – and there’s loads of experience on the bench as well.
