Tomorrow’s U21 match switched to Crossmolina

The venue for the U21 North-West Cup match against Sligo that’s set to be played tomorrow has been changed again. In what has become a bit of a North Mayo magical mystery tour, the game – which was first fixed for Ballina before being switched the other day to Knockmore – will now take place at Deel Rovers’ pitch in Crossmolina. Throw-in time tomorrow remains 12pm.

This isn’t the only upcoming match that has been subject to a venue change. Sunday week’s FBD clash against Roscommon – a nice, pre-season Division One taster, one that I’m planning to get to – has been shifted from Ballinlough to Hyde Park. This change makes complete sense, given the size of the crowd that’s likely to show up for it and I guess we can hardly start belly-aching about being shunted to Roscommon for this one in the way we did so audibly last June.

  1. Great stuff WJ. I always love our visit to Ballinlough on a bi-annual basis and I was looking forward to it this year. The Michael Glaveys community come out in force for that day and have always put there best foot forward. A small club with a proud tradition in football. They epitomise community spirit at its very best. A proud footballing community hosting the noisy neighbors, Here the trumpets blast loudest at the sniff of victory over the auld enemy. It matters little if its Jan or Feb. A great chance to talk Roscommon football and the promise of another year

  2. Fionan Duffy playing excellent stuff by all accounts in the U21 game. Brian Reape and Sharoize Akram also. Duffy will come put with a big score on his home pitch.

  3. Fiona’s Duffy had a good ist half taken off at half time scored a penalty and 4 or 5 points of which 2 or 3 from play.
Sharoize was excellent throughout at number 7 cool and calm on ball and kicked 2 points.
Seamus cunniffe and Eddie Doran good in defence.
Matthew Ruane and Fergal Boland very good to.
Pitch was heavy and Sligo were poor so I wouldn’t be reading to much into a game like this but you can see the players that stand out more than some others even at this early stage of year!

  4. 3-12 to 0-4.i wouldn’t read into the 2 goals scored in 2nd half both were scrappy resulting from defence errors more than anything

  5. I might be jumping ahead of myself here, but does anyone feel Akram, Reape and Duffy could be called up to the senior squad if their current form continues in the coming weeks? On a related matter, I must say I am looking forward to seeing how Regan performs tomorrow after scoring 1-03 for UUJ last weekend

  6. Forever the optimist Comparing chalk and cheese, But it is always nice the younger guys making their move ala Diarmuid last year.
