Prediction mini-league leaderboard – Week 2

Allianz Predicition League 2016

Another flurry of League results last weekend and so plenty of opportunities for charging up or sliding down the Allianz Leagues prediction mini-league, depending on how well your crystal ball was functioning.

I’m still treading water, up slightly from 22nd last week to 20th this time round, so not good enough to make it onto the leaderboard. What about you?

  1. I actually cannot believe the fuss that is being made over our performance against Dublin. Billie Joe Paddens latest column takes the last straw. What did we really learn about Mayo last Saturday? 1. We’ve got heart. 2. We are willing to roll up our sleeves and fight 3. Bar Cillian and hopefully Andy Moran, we have no inside forward ammunition 4.Our midfield don’t stand up when the two O’Sheas are not at 8 and 9. 5. Our defence since James Horan has left have continued to employ a defensive system that avoids responsibility.

Worse Mayo and better Dublin players have matched in Castlebar and I have been left with more room for optimism. Let’s not forget, it was only 3 years ago we hammered this Dublin team in a AI semi final. Last summer, we got carried away with the addition of AOS at FF. What has been proved over the last few years is that a big full forward is the easiest attack method to defend against, dated tactics and ending up costing us our main man around the middle and nullifying our full forward line(hence Michael Murphys positioning). I would love for Mayo to get back to the dynamic team they were under James, a forward line full off energy and movement. It’s early days and I really hope Stephen Rochford can apply this, anyway rant over.
