Update on streamed matches

With all matches taking place behind closed doors this weekend, the only chance supporters have of seeing some live action in the county’s club Championships will be to tune in online.

Happily, a good few matches are being streamed live, both by Mayo GAA via its Mayo GAA TV service and by some clubs themselves.

Just to recall, tomorrow’s matches on Mayo GAA TV are those between Castlebar Mitchels and Westport (5pm) and Knockmore v Ballina (7pm). Match passes for these two games are available to purchase here. On Sunday it’s Kiltimagh v Bonniconlon (1pm) and Belmullet v Garrymore (4pm). Match passes for these two games are available to purchase here.

Mayo GAA also announced today that Cáirde Mhaigheo season tickets holders will be able to stream all four of this weekend’s featured games free of charge. Details on what you need to do to avail of this offer are here.

These are tough times all round and it’s hard for loyal GAA supporters not to be able to go and see their local club in action. This very welcome gesture by Mayo GAA will help ease the pain for many and it deserves to be applauded as such.

Others are also doing what they can to keep supporters tuned into the action this weekend.

I mentioned yesterday that the Charlestown/Breaffy game tomorrow evening (5pm) is being streamed on YouTube, courtesy of Charlestown (here). I’ll grab the embed code for that stream from YouTube and run the game as a live event on here as well, which hopefully will make it a bit easier for more to see it.

The Davitts/Ballintubber match at 7pm tomorrow evening is being streamed live on Ballintubber’s Facebook page. Also at 7pm tomorrow the Ballyhaunis/Lahardane game is being streamed live on Lahardane’s Facebook page. I’ve no links for either and Facebook don’t provide embed codes for use on third-party websites so I won’t be able to run either of those here.

I will, though, be able to do this for the Ardnaree/Castlebar Mitchels IFC clash on Sunday, as this one is being streamed live on YouTube.

I’ll add to this post if I get word of other matches that are being shown online tomorrow.

UPDATE: The Aghamore/Moy Davitts game at 7pm this evening (Saturday) is being streamed on the Aghamore Facebook page.

  1. I am Season Ticket holder – tried to enter code but it keeps reading invalid code – any suggestions?? Is this a common problem?

  2. Great move on the MayoGAATV/Club+ initiative. I called for this earlier in the year and it’s good to see it being brought in now.
I’m all set up and ready for this evening’s action.

  3. Hope some new talent comes forward in this round of the championship. I think we have a tendency to pick flashy players rather then solid ones. We need a good defensive CHB.. Watching Cbar v Breaffy I felt C Bar really missed Ger Mc Donagh

  4. I’ve the Castlebar/Westport match on the TV (mirrored from the laptop over Apple TV), with the Charlestown/Breaffy on the iPad as well. Which to focus on more? Hmmm.

  5. Changing of the guard at Breaffy – Westport deserved 0-15 to 0-8 winners over Castlebar. Breaffy beating Charlestown so that’s the Mitchels out. Group of Death it sure was.

  6. Castlebar were as poor as I’ve seen them in a long time. Westport beat them in every position on the field and should have closed out the game a lot sooner than they did. Lee Keegan was the main outlet from deep with quick counter attacks following turn overs. Serious pace all over that westport team but they lack experience. Mark Moran got some lovely scores

  7. Toe to Hand you obviously never saw Castlebar in the early seventies as I think they went 7 years without winning a first round championship game.

  8. By God that Ballina v Knockmore match was special. Looked light years ahead of Breaffy and Charlestown. Ballina’s last 10 minutes were superb.

  9. Ill take your word on it Jr. I guess no team can keep competing at the top indefinitely. Knockmore missed there chance with Ballina who turned out to be fitter. Great game in the closing stages. Twill be an interesting draw tomorrow.

  10. Great game. Knockmore v Ballina.
Older heads and more physical strenght showed in end for Ballina lot of off the ball stuff. but knockmore with average age U23 showed they be contendors maybe even this year but definitely in next couple years.
Three of last years minors Conor Flynn, sean Holmes and Conall Dempsey showed well and aidan orme and peter naughton also done well.

  11. Can they please stop using John Maughan on commentary. This is now several matches where he’s simply going by the current scoreline and basing his co commentary on that. Ballina were doing well in the second half and needed to survive the patch where they only had 13 players.
A Knockmore player blatantly pulls down a Ballina player, rightly shown a black card. The commentary mused how it was harsh and looked more like going for the ball, nonsense.
The replay of the incident where a Knockmore player deliberately high kicked his legs up straight when falling over. It was a clear straight red. Now, very difficult to see that in real time. Agsin nothing.
It must have been 12 times mentioned Ballina no shape, Ballina no forward line, Ballina fortuitous goal. If you were listening without watching you’d think it was Knockmore 15 pts Ballina 1-3. It wasn’t until into the Ballina comeback that they started to talk on how Knockmore had not put Ballina away. They didn’t mention about Knockmore only adding 1 extra point with the two man black card advantage.
Another thing that gets my goat is co commentators dusting down old cliches about clubs rather than knowing the current team/form. This is a young Knockmore team and by their traditional standards a light not so physical team. There are a few older players who bring size and physicality. What do we hear tonight?
“You won’t beat Knockmore physically ”
Ballina proceeded to outmuscle Knockmore to close out the game.
So in the relegation battle upcoming are we going to have to hear “Kiltane always a difficult ground to go to”
The contrast between Declan Reilly and phoning it in commentary in the second game was start.
Willie Joe I normally abstain from complaining on named individual, but I’ve provided a fairly detailed online on how John Maughan is consistently phoning in his co commentary duties with little prep or insight.
In a Ballintubber Castlebar match two years ago he commented I quote “I was just saying to Jackie a 1 pt lead is a huge lead in a game like this”
Jackie Heenahan excellent, Kevin Filsn, Stephen Carolan, Colm from Westport, Austin O’Malley all very good.
I will take it upon to email Mayogaatv.

  12. Bit of a rant there JP but as I wasnt listening to the commentary I may not be in a position to judge. Good result for Westport and Breaffy but I still feel Ballintubber are the team to beat

  13. JP it was less than 3 minutes that Ballina were down to 13. Knockmore didn’t score in that time and one of the commentators did say that. What I found annoying was who got the first black card? I don’t know how many times they told us it was Jack Irwin and I don’t how many times they said he was involved in the play during that time.

  14. James Horan should definetely have Mark Moran on the bus for Pearce Stadium in October and Padraig O’Hora in the starting 15.Both outstanding today.

  15. Ballina were one score down yesterday at half time and came back to win the game. Was that the greatest comeback ever in mayo club championship? Listening to John Maughan I think it might have been.

  16. vaaldam – it worked really well for the first 3 games. Technical difficulties for 2nd half of Garrymore game. I think the problems are down to broadband in the hosting ground. It is a really good service. Pity broadband is so poor in rural Ireland.

  17. Very poor telecast much better last year! I have high speed broadband so it must have been a problem. Its a great idea but today it was not fit for purpose. I contacted Mayogaa and informed them and they did not think it was a wide spread problem but loads of complaints on Twitter !
Regarding the club draw I was amazed with the lack of social distancing with the lads doing the draws. They need to be leading by example. I pointed this out to them as well.
